Every year, during Advent, the Viennese Christmas Market (the Christkindlmarkt) takes place in the centre of town in front of the town hall (the Rathaus). And one of the attractions is a small "train" that can be taken around the market. And, just so as to ensure that no accidents and injuries are met with, a flagman, armed only with a whistle and a flag has the job of clearing a path through the crowds. Incidentally, the Christkindlmarkt is extremely popular and attracts very many visitors from all over the world.
