Trixi Danell -  Talking to the Top!

Trixi Danell had a life that took her into the lives of the rich and the famous. She was a journalist and her subjects were people. And, amongst those she spoke to were Lech Walesa, Brigitte Bardot, Peter Ustinov, and many more, too. These were the people her readers liked reading about. And, that's why Trixi Danell became the well known personality she is. And, getting interviews for her was usually nothing more than a matter of form.

But, getting close enough to one of the highest of all was no easy matter. Bill Clinton was holding a speech in Vienna and Trixi Danell had been given just a very short time. And so she was there. But, then came the struggle.

One of Bill Clinton's body guards decided that Trixi Danell was not to gain access, and pushing her away in a none too gentle manner, made it clear she was not welcome But, Bill Clinton thought otherwise!

Very quietly and decisively, Bill Clinton put himself between the body guard and Trixi Danell. Bill Clinton and nobody else was to decide with whom he should speak. The body guard was not very pleased and showed it. But, what could he do? And, then came the real surprise.

Smiling a very big smile, Bill Clinton asked Trixi Danell how she was doing! It was as if they had known each other for years. And, they had! Years before, Trixi Danell had interviewed the then President Bill Clinton in the White House – and Mr. President had never forgotten it! Trixi Danell had made an impression.
But now, she only had time for two very quick questions, and, carefully choosing her words, she asked Bill Clinton how he felt being no longer the most powerful man on earth! His answer was simple. He was relaxed and able to travel and get to know countries and people. And, did he suffer from the loss of power? To this question Bill Clinton answered no. But, it was the hard work of being president that he missed most of all. And then, to finish this very short interview, Trixi Danell told Bill Clinton that the Viennese palace of Schönbrunn was the perfect place for making him feel like an emperor again! The perfect end to a two minute reunion. But, that was all a very long time ago.

Now, Trixi Danell has moved round to the other side of the pen. She is now reads from what others have written. And, her readings are great. By cleverly combining parts of passages with her own interpretations, Trixi Danell not only brings life and depth to the books, but, cleverly and interestingly relates the entire stories as well. And, this is the magic of her readings. And, this is a talent which she's now sharing with us.

But, of course, Trixi Danell's life is not only literature. She loves walking and being in the fresh air, as well. And being the way that she is, she loves deep conversation. People, for her, are the substance of life, and that's why she went to the top with her questions!

And, Trixi Danell's next German language reading in on the 23rd of April. The book is Madame Bovary by Gustav Flaubert. The reading starts at 18.30 and is in the Cafe Ministerium in the 1st district of Vienna. Um freiwillige Spenden wird gebeten.
