Intermediate Text (B1) - Hansi Paigl - All Keyed Up! Good fun and great musical evenings!

HANSI PAIGL

All Keyed Up!

Once a month, in a small hotel in Vienna, is the sound of music and laughter. Hansi Paigl is playing the piano and entertaining his audience. His stories and jokes are well loved, and Hansi Paigl has become an important part of life for very many people in Breitensee - the corner of town where he lives.

It was more than ten years ago that Hansi Paigl started his musical evenings in the back room of a very small Gasthaus. But, within a very short time, he had to move down the road to Mateschek's hotel, a much bigger place. Too many people were coming, and the reason was simple.

Hansi Paigl has a heart made of music. As a boy, he was brilliant, and dreamed of becoming professional. But, it was just after the war and wasn't to be. And so, Hansi Paigl followed his father into business. But, of course, he still had weekends and evenings for music.

And, as a young man, Hansi Paigl played wherever and whenever he could. He had his own band, and being popular, was fully booked out. And, then came the years of family and work. And, his priorities changed. But then, after reaching retirement, Hansi Paigl started his musical evenings. He was back and word quickly spread.

And, Hansi Paigl knows how to make people happy. His music, whether jazz, lounge, classic or folk has a magical energy that's very uplifting. People love it!

And, where does Hansi Paigl get his energy from? When he's not playing the piano he's playing with trains! His model railway is second to none, and for him this is natural. Little engines, too, have rhythm in their whistles. And, what could be better?
There's melody and life in all that he does – and all on a very high note!
