Gräfin Dönhof was a very influential person in
post-war Germany. She was born in
Prussia on the 21st of December 1909, and grew up
in her family's palace, Schloss Friedrichstein.
In 1945, the
Russians marched into Prussia and Marion Gräfin Dönhof fled
on her famous horse Alarich to Hamburg. And, it was there that she
became a journalist for Die Zeit, a famous and prestigious
German newspaper.
Marion
Gräfin Dönhof became Germany's most important political journalist
and was awarded the Heinrich Heine prize for her work.
